ACTIVELY SUPPORTING WOMEN IN government
The absence of any women at all on Hellertown Borough Council is shameful to me, and I will work hard to change that.
I would gladly step aside to make way for a progressive-minded woman on council.
I will encourage women of all political affiliations in Hellertown to run for office and invite them to apply for openings.
Hellertown has an excellent woman borough manager in Cathy Hartranft, and some women appointed to borough boards.
But we need women on council because that’s where the central power resides — and that’s where the old boy network holds a death-grip.
I actively campaigned, in Hellertown, for Congresswoman Susan Wild’s campaign, and I did so because I believe in her fight for equity in pay for women and her emphasis on family-centric policies.
When women serve in political leadership, issues of family and equity get much more attention, as they should.
If you’re not hearing about children and family-centered borough planning—and I don’t just mean lip service—you can be sure that men have taken over a government.
I’m a man, but I will do all I can to bring gender diversity to council and borough government.
